Position Statements

May 10, 2016

We want you to know where the Chamber stands on important local issues. If you are a member and disagree with a position we are taking on your behalf, we would like to hear from you. If we receive many comments on a position we will seek out a spokesperson to attend our board meeting and present an alternative position for the boards consideration.

The George

Position: The Chamber supports the Town's process for consideration of the George Hotel project and encourages the approval of the Official Community Plan amendment needed to continue that process

The BC Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The PNP program hopes to assist business retention via an immigrant investor program.

Position It is the position of the Gibsons Chamber that all new PNP business owners in our area should be greeted and welcomed into our business community. It is also the position of the Gibsons Chamber that we should serve our local retiring members by providing useful advice that may help them in selling their business via the PNP program.

Incinerator

Position: The Gibsons Chamber of Commerce is opposed to the incinerator on economic grounds as it diverts attention and public funding away from more efficient waste reduction measures. We are also opposed on environmental grounds as the evidence strongly suggests that this method of waste disposal leads to dioxin and heavy metal contamination.   Read more over at zerowastecanada.ca (pdf)

Woodfibre LNG
