William BakerWilliam Baker, B. Comm. CPA, C.A. is a passionate entrepreneur who has created companies in a variety of industries including telecommunications, advertising, internet software, real estate, publishing, finance and the arts. In 2011 he founded a venture capital investment company and actively mentors investee companies. He is also the co-founder of the Outdoor Art Gallery in Gibsons, BC, (www.outdoorartgallery.ca) a gallery that exists entirely outdoors, using blank walls and open spaces to exhibit the artwork of local artists.

Mr. Baker received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McGill University, is a former member of the Canadian Armed Forces having retired at the rank of Captain and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and the CPA Canada Institute of BC.

Mr. Baker is active in charitable work with Sleeping Children Around the World (www.scaw.org) where he is an overseas volunteer. He is the former President of the Kiwanis Club of North Vancouver and is the 2014/2015 Governor for Area 73 in Toastmasters International.

Mr. Baker was a 15 year member of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce prior to joining the Gibsons Chamber 5 years ago and is a strong supporter of entrepreneurs as the backbone of economic development in thriving communities.

Ken Ashdown

 

Fifth House Group President and co-founder Ken Ashdown is a lapsed musician and former journalist, indie label entrepreneur, and major label executive. Over his career Ken has worked with some of the music industry's biggest stars, including Shania Twain, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, John Mellencamp, Dire Straits, New Order, David Bowie, the Pixies, and U2. He served as Vice President at PolyGram Group Canada (Mercury/Polydor division) and later at QDesign Corporation, a leading provider of advanced digital audio compression technologies. An award-winning, provincially certified adult educator, Ken spent several years as Head of Department at Vancouver Film School's groundbreaking Entertainment Business Management transmedia program and has been hailed as a “master teacher.” He earned his Master of Arts degree (MA) in Music Business Management (with Distinction) from the University of Westminster in London, England, and is a Belbin® Team Role Accredited facilitator. Among other associations he is a member of the Cultural Human Resources Council, Music Tank (a London-based music industry think tank), and the Music and Entertainment Industry Educators Association. Ken's side projects include running Digitize Me(dia) and curating the back catalogue for his record label and publishing company, Waste Island Records/Waste Island Music. His greatest passions include leadership, environmental issues and sustainability.

Born and raised on the west coast, Fran has lived and worked in Gibsons for over 22 years. She owned and operated West Coast Vacation Property Management early on in her career, helping hundreds of tourists coming to the Coast. She has been a realtor with REMAX in Gibsons since 2008, working to promote the Coast to newcomers, both businesses and new residents, to encourage them to move to and work here in our beautiful home. She is also an Executive member of the Gibsons Rotary Club and is a Board Member and Capital Campaign member of the Gibsons Public Market. She was on the PAC executives for 2 schools for 14 years, and now has 2 children at university in the Okanagan

David has been designing business solution with digital technology for more than 15 years. He is always passionate about growing ideas from a concept on a napkin to the final public launch. Helping his clients achieve their business goals through the creative application of technology is a truly satisfying experience for him. Starting his creative career in New York City, he has extensive involvement in designing interactive media, internet and mobile projects .Traveling, cooking and brainstorming are a few of his favourite hobbies and he is currently enjoying life with his wife and 3 year-old daughter in Gibsons.

Ted McNicol, MBA, CPHR, CCP

Ted has spent most of his professional career working in Human Resources in very large organizations, several of which operated globally. Specializing in Rewards (compensation & benefits), performance management and systems developed his passion for the operational/business side.

 

In the Systems area, Ted has lead teams to create new systems, primarily in HR. He has developed expertise in change management, project management, financial planning and modeling and in facilitating groups using Lean principles to conduct process re-engineering.

His education path supported this development, as he achieved a diploma in Computer Systems, a Bachelors in HR & Marketing and an MBA, starting in eBusiness and finishing in Human Resources. As a lifelong learner/teacher, Ted has completed an MBA, an Honours B.Comm. and a Certificate in Information Systems.  He holds current certifications as a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) and a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP). He has taught the complete human resource program at undergraduate and graduate levels. Ted is also trained in personal & team assessment, organization design competencies & performance management (Kolbe-certified, Lominger-certified, Hay-McBer competencies, Aubrey Daniels International performance, Lean Learning Center).

Upon moving to the Sunshine Coast, more of his time has been spent working directly with business leaders, providing a range of advice and guidance reflecting his  focus on people being the primary competitive advantage in today’s economy.

 

An amateur musician/music lover and avid photographer, Ted is also active in the community, serving on the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce Board, the Gibsons & District Public Library Board, the Entertainment Committee for the Gibsons Legion 109, and as a Research Ambassador for the Canadian Institute of Health Research. In the recent past, he has also been a Board member of the Vancouver Métis Citizens Society and at Successful Contracting & Consulting, preparing new contractors/consultants for self-employment.
