2018-19 Board of Directors

At the Gibsons and District Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting held March 16, 2018 at the Sunshine Coast Golf & Country Club in Roberts Creek, members acclaimed a new slate of Directors. William Baker, Joe Oteruelo, Milynda Taylor and Antje Unger continued as Directors, Ted McNicol and Fran Miller stood for re-election for a further two-year term, joined by newcomers Deb Mowbray and Casie Spears.
 
William Baker, B.Comm., CPA, C.A.
Willabeth Capital Corporation
William Baker is a passionate entrepreneur who has created companies in a variety of industries including telecommunications, advertising, internet software, real estate, publishing, finance and the arts. In 2011 he founded a venture capital investment company and actively mentors investee companies. He is also the co-founder of the Outdoor Art Gallery in Gibsons, BC, a gallery that exists entirely outdoors, using blank walls and open spaces to exhibit the artwork of local artists.
 
William received a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from McGill University, retired from the Canadian Armed Forces with the rank of Captain and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and the CPA Canada Institute of BC.
 
William is active in charitable work with Sleeping Children Around the World (www.scaw.org) where he is an overseas volunteer. He is the former President of the Kiwanis Club of North Vancouver and was 2014/2015 Governor for Area 73 in Toastmasters International. William was a 15 year member of the North Vancouver Chamber of Commerce prior to joining the Gibsons Chamber six years ago and is a strong supporter of entrepreneurs as the backbone of economic development in thriving communities.
 
Ted McNicol
Ted has spent most of his professional career working in Human Resources in very large organizations, several of which operated globally. Specializing in Rewards (compensation and benefits), performance management and systems developed his passion for the operational/business side. Upon moving to the Sunshine Coast, more of his time has been spent working directly with business leaders, providing a range of advice and guidance reflecting his focus on people being the primary competitive advantage in today's economy.
 
An amateur musician/music lover and avid photographer, Ted is also active in the community, serving on the Gibsons District Public Library Board, on the Gibsons Legion 109 Entertainment Committee, and as a Research Ambassador for the Canadian Institute of Health Research. In the recent past, he has also been a Board member of the Vancouver Metis Citizens Society and at Successful Contracting Consulting, preparing new contractors/consultant for self-employment.
 
Fran Miller
Born and raised on the west coast, Fran has lived and worked in Gibsons for over 22 years. She owned and operated West Coast Vacation Property Management early on in her career, helping hundreds of tourists coming to the Coast. She has been a Realtor with REMAX in Gibsons since 2008, working to promote the Coast to newcomers, both businesses and new residents, to encourage them to move to and work here in our beautiful community. She is also an Executive member of the Gibsons Rotary Club, ,a Board Member and Capital Campaign member of the Gibsons Public Market, and served as a PAC executive for two schools for 14 years.
 
Deb Mowbray
Deb Mowbray is a local Realtor and has lived and worked on the Sunshine Coast for 15+ years. She has raised her two sons here who are now 20 and 21, spending many years on ball fields and in ice arenas and volunteering with their schools as much as she could!
 
Deb enjoys gardening, yoga, arts and crafts, the beach and living in the Heart of Gibsons Landing!
 
Deb has been a member of the Chamber since she got into real estate in 2004 and has seen many changes in our community, has seen businesses come and go and is a strong proponent of shopping and supporting local. She would like to see the community maintain its character while continuing to thrive.
 
Joe Oteruelo, Architect
Owner, WOW Gallery and One Flower One Leaf Gallery
Joe's path to his Gibsons architectural practice girdled the globe. From his native Saskatchewan, Joe spent a year in Denmark before moving to Pamplona, Spain, to study architecture and town planning at the University of Navarre. In 2004 he relocated to Beijing, where he met and married Xinyu - his partner and co-owner of WOW Gallery at Sunnycrest Mall and One Flower One Leaf Gallery in Gibsons Landing.
 
Xinyu's background in interior design and interest in the arts complements Joe's work as an architect; Joe's early studies in arts and crafts at University of Saskatchewan complements Xinyu's goal to help support the arts community in Gibsons through operation of two successful galleries.
 
The Chamber is pleased to have two such knowledgeable entrepreneurs helping to build a strong business community in Gibsons. Oh - did we mention that Xinyu preceded Joe as a Director of the Chamber?
 
Casie Spears
Office Manager, Len Wray's Moving & Storage
Growing up in rural Texas and riding a horse to school, this fun-loving southern belle brings a "git 'er dun" attitude with her. She was educated in Kansas City, where she began her 16-year career in the Transportation industry. Her tenacity and passion to grow in business lead her through various roles such as Customer Service Manager, Logistics Team Lead, Account Manager, Corporate Trainer, and Freight Bill Auditor. Casie traveled the United States, educating consumers on technology advancements within the Freight industry.
 
Casie moved to Gibsons in 2015 with her husband (a Vancouverite by birth). She volunteered for the Community Services Thrift Store while applying for her work visa, obtained her Permanent Residency status in 2017 and looks forward to becoming a Canadian citizen.
 
Casie became Office Manager of Len Wrays Moving and Storage in May of 2016. This role has introduced her to hundreds of community members. She loves her job and helping clients transition to and from the Coast. She is considering becoming a small business owner here on the Coast within the next 10 years and wants to be a helpful and positive addition to the business community.
 
Casie adores people and effecting change to better lives in all that she does. She is a short but fierce leader who aspires to live a life that radiates love and service. She is one of the funniest people she knows and works tirelessly to put a smile on everyone's face. Casie enjoys putting together puzzles, participating in SKs, being silly and fun with her friends, volunteering in the recovery community, and spending time with her husband and their boxer, Blaze.
 
Milynda Taylor

Milynda's business model is based on honesty, integrity and accountability towards her clients - mainly self-employed, small or medium sized businesses providing services and products in construction, publishing, retail, health care, or pet care.
 
Milynda's 25+ years of experience in finance provide the firm foundation for her efficient and detail oriented accounting service, high level of professionalism and warm, friendly environment. She is comfortable with all types of businesses and structures from self-employed to medium size companies. Milynda expertly monitors and consults with her clients on business growth patterns, and provides current information on financial and tax matters enabling them to make a more reliable decision regarding their business.
 
Understanding the importance of supporting the community, Milynda volunteers her time as Treasurer for the Gibsons Chamber of Commerce, the Coasting Along Theatre Society and the Restorative Justice Program of Sunshine Coast.
 
Antje Unger, BBA
With over 15 years of key account management and consulting experience, Antje is a specialist in developing the long-lasting and trustworthy customer relationships that help business owners achieve their personal and strategic business goals. We value Antje's expertise in technology and service applications and demonstrated project success working with Fortune 500 organizations.
 
Antje's expertise in a broad spectrum of industries (including telecommunications, finance, insurance, hospitality, manufacturing, automotive, health, education, engineering, mining, retail, transportation and utilities) informs her contribution as a Director of the Gibsons & District Chamber of Commerce.
